Soccer City FC names Columbus Crew goalkeeper Will Hesmer as April's Player of the Month for the 2008 MLS Season.
Will Hesmer's work in goal allowed the Crew to win four games during the month. Columbus sits in first place in the Eastern standings with a record of 5-1 after a their most recent win on Saturday versus the Kansas City Wizards. The Crew remain unbeaten at home.
Hesmer ended April with two shutouts versus Toronto FC and Houston. Along with his four wins, he made 20 saves during the month. Hesmer registered six saves in his shutout versus Houston on April 26. He also had a massive penalty kick save in the game against Toronto FC.

That is some serious haterade on Landon Donovan, who had one of the top ~10 months of any player in MLS history.
Soccer City FC debated the merits of both players and there was in-depth discussion on behalf of both players.
That said, Hasmer slightly out paced LD because of the Crew's home unbeaten streak and first place finish in April -- the Crew's standing in the league is due in large part to the play of Will Hesmer.
