West Brom boss Roberto Di Matteo has put all rumours of him moving to a bigger club to one side and has made it clear he is “very happy” at the Hawthorns. Since moving from MK Dons to the Baggies, Di Matteo has been impressive, leading the club to promotion in his first season.
Since that promotion, West Brom have settled into the new season well and the club lie in fifth place after nine games, much higher than those betting on Premier league expected them to be at this stage.
The Italian manager has been linked with a number of other clubs recently but insists he isn’t looking too far ahead, saying “I am very happy where I am and very grateful for the opportunity I have been given here, You can't have a long-term plan as a manager because you have a few bad results, you get questioned and then you get a ticket for your holidays.”
West Brom’s impressive return to the top flight carried on last weekend when Fulham were the latest side to come unstuck against the newly promoted side, losing 2-1. The West Brom win came courtesy of goals from Youssuf Mulumbu and Mark-Antoine Fortune after a Scott Carson own goal gave the visitors an early lead.
The Baggies will look to continue their impressive league form this weekend when they travel to fellow new boys Blackpool at Bloomfield Road. Di Matteo will be hoping to leave the seaside with more than a kiss-me-quick hat and a bag of candy-floss.
It looks as though the classic yo-yo side may well be putting down some roots in the Premier League. If they keep up their current form, they will even be involved in UEFA Europa League betting next season!
