Barcelona have been the scourge of Manchester United in Europe over recent campaigns but now the Spanish giants will not have the chance to scupper the Red Devils' chances of bring home silverware from the continent.
United fans will be disappointed their side failed to make the knockout stages of the Champions League but based on their performances in the group stage, the Premier League title holders did not really deserve to get through.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson saw his side struggle in a relatively easy group compared to the past and the Old Trafford outfit showed some uncharacteristic performances on the big European nights this term. Anyone looking at the best in-play Europa League odds will be wondering if they can pull things around.
Having dusted themselves down and now that the club are on a decent run of form, having knocked out rivals Manchester City for the FA Cup and beating Arsenal at the Emirates in the Premier League, United are ready for the Europa League and their first-leg clash with Ajax on February 16.
The Dutch outfit have some talented players at their disposal including a transfer target of United's, in the form of Danish playmaker Christian Erikson.
Ferguson will be hoping the teenager will not be the cause of United's downfall, as the Scotsman hopes to add the Europa League to his long list of titles since his arrival at Old Trafford in 1986.
And with Barcelona out of the picture, it could be United's turn to bring home some European silverware following two runners-up places in the Champions League to the Catalan giants.
