Universidad de Chile's Marcelo Díaz scored early in the first half as the Chilean side defeated Pachuca in the first leg of the 2009 Copa Libertadores preliminary round. On February 4th, the clubs will face off at Estadio Hidalgo in the second leg.
The winner after the two-legged round will advance to a group containing Brazil's Gremio, Bolivia's Aurora, and Columbia's Boyacá Chicó.
Universidad controlled the match from the beginning and after just six minutes 24-year-old midfielder Emilio Hernández found Díaz for the score.
The U’s defense was strong throughout with Rafael Olarra organizing the backline and Miguel Pinto making several key saves.
Is Pachuca going to advance or will Universidad de Chile move on?
