Everton v Liverpool betting preview

It seems safe to say that the last thing under pressure Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson wanted to hear ahead of this weekend's crucial Merseyside derby against local rivals Everton in the English Premier League was another piece of injury news concerning a key player. However, that's exactly what Hodgson has been left facing after it emerged that Dutch forward Dirk Kuyt suffered a serious ankle injury whilst on international duty with his country.

Kuyt was forced to leave the field of play after just half an hour after landing awkwardly following a challenge with Sweden's Daniel Majstorovic. Despite positive news concerning the fitness of desperately out of form striker Fernando Torres, Hodgson will have been left devastated by the news concerning Kuyt, who could be set for a long spell on the sidelines.

With Liverpool currently stuck in the bottom three of the Premier League after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of minnows Blackpool prior to the international break, they badly need to pick up all three points away at Everton on Sunday. The problem for Liverpool is that Everton are also looking to kick-start their season after a poor start that only saw them secure their first win of the campaign in their last game.

It would take a brave man indeed to back Liverpool for the win given the current state of affairs around Anfield but if anyone out there who knows how to gamble on tough fixtures does decide to take the plunge and put faith in the Reds to get their season back on track in style, there will be some decent odds out there, particularly if you check out a betting exchange like Betfair (if you're not sure how Betfair works, it's really worth learning so you can find the best value ahead of the big soccer games).
