Clemson senior midfielder Tommy Drake (5-8/158) kindly spoke about his college career, his Major League Soccer Player Combine invitation and his training schedule as he gears up for the event.
Q. Care to comment the team's performance in 2010?
Tommy Drake: In 2010, our team was extremely fit and everyone on the team was committed to improving every day. Our biggest strength was our ability to outwork our opponents.
Q. Were you pleased to hear that you had been invited to the combine?
Tommy Drake: I was extremely excited when I received my invitation. Playing professional soccer has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid.
Q. How is your first touch being that you have been out of competitive play for a few days now?
Tommy Drake: I think my first touch is up to par. I've been kicking around with other players in the area and joining in on some training sessions with teams from my youth club.
Q. What will you focus on in training as you prepare for the combine?
Tommy Drake: The main thing I will focus on in preparing for the combine is my fitness level. To perform at the professional level you need to be extremely fit.
Q. How will you exploit your strengths such as running at defenders out wide down at the combine?
Tommy Drake: At the combine, I'm just going to relax and do what I do best. If I work as hard as I can and focus on performing at my best, the rest will take care of itself.
Q. Finally, can you sum up your experience of playing collegiate soccer at Clemson?
Tommy Drake: Playing at Clemson and in a league like the ACC has been an incredible experience. I've played with and against some amazing players and it's definitely something I will remember for the rest of my life.
