Universidad de Chile Defeats Pachuca 1-0
The winner after the two-legged round will advance to a group containing Brazil's Gremio, Bolivia's Aurora, and Columbia's Boyacá Chicó.
Universidad controlled the match from the beginning and after just six minutes 24-year-old midfielder Emilio Hernández found Díaz for the score.
The U’s defense was strong throughout with Rafael Olarra organizing the backline and Miguel Pinto making several key saves.
Is Pachuca going to advance or will Universidad de Chile move on?

FA Cup 4th Round Predictions - How did You Do?
Derby 1-1 Nottingham Forest
My Prediction: 1-1
Pretty happy to get this one spot on! It was a pretty good game of football, and I now expect Forest to win at their place to win the chance to host Man Utd.
Replay Prediction: 2-1
Hartlepool 0-2 West Ham
My Prediction: 0-2
Spot on! In the end Hartlepool did well but West Ham simply out played them.
Chelsea 3-1 Ipswich
My Prediction: 2-0
So I didn't get it perfect but I got the score right! Although the scoreline reads 3-1 if it was not for a couple of quality set pieces this one could have been closer - I don't think this was the Chelsea performance fans wanted to see.
Doncaster 0-0 Aston Villa
My Prediction: 0-2
Delighted to see my home club get a draw, and they deserved it, they were not shadowed by Villa and even if the replay is too much for them I hope they enjoy it. Villa at home will be too strong.
Replay Prediction: 3-0
Hull 2-0 Millwall
My Prediction: 1-0
A solid win for Hull here, never really in trouble, shame about the violence with the Millwall fans though.
Kettering 2-4 Fulham
My Prediction: 0-1
The score shows a comfortable Fulham win but up until the 87th minute it was equal at 2-2. Kettering did everything right, dug deep, fought hard and went for everything, and I was gutted to see Fulham score so late on.
Portsmouth 0-2 Swansea
My Prediction: 1-0
Wow! This is the first match I predicted the wrong result - but can you blame me? Portsmouth worry me now - they just looked like they didn't care - and even worse, as they were the holders! The worse thing is though, that Swansea matched them and deserved all 3 points. Pompey didn't show. Would not be surprised if they start to slide into the bottom 3 now.
Sheffield Utd 2-1 Charlton
My Prediction: 2-1
Perfect! Sheffield dominated the game and Charlton only scored late on - for them the main aim is survival so I think they will not be too bothered about the result today.
Sunderland 0-0 Blackburn
My Prediction: 1-1
Just a drab game really, Sunderland created the best chances but couldn't take them. At Ewood Park, Blackburn will be too strong for Sunderland.
Replay Prediction: 1-0
Torquay 0-1 Coventry
My Prediction: 1-0
Torquay should have won this game. They were all over Coventry but could not find the net, and in the end Coventry scored on one of the few occassions they got forward. Chris Coleman should be very relieved, his side did not deserve anything from the game.
Watford 4-3 Crystal Palace
My Prediction: 1-2
This is a good result for Watford, and fans might hope it gets their team going again as they desperately seek to rise up the table.
West Brom 2-2 Burnley
My Prediction: 2-0
Having been hit by a late, late goal against Spurs, Burnley got one, their 90th minute goal getting them the chance to take on West Brom at their own ground. West Brom will be very upset to have conceded so late - especially as Turf Moor is a stronghold for Burnley right now, and I think Burnley will win.
Replay Prediction: 2-1
Wolves 1-2 Middlesbrough
My Prediction: 1-0
A tough game for Boro but they did well to come through in the end - Wolves I feel have missed a big big chance to get into the next round and even further, but for Boro it's a vital win.
Man Utd 2-1 Spurs
My Prediction: 3-0
Spurs went for a stronger side and despite taking the lead never looked like winning. Man Utd took control of the ball and the game and as soon as it was 1-1 you knew what would happen. What was upsetting for Spurs fans was that even late on, and 1-2 down, their team seemed ordered not too attack, almost like damage limitation. Which is a bit strange - why not have a go?
Cardiff 0-0 Arsenal
My Prediction: 0-2
Cardiff matched Arsenal for 75% of the game and I think should have won it - they missed a big chance to create the cupset we all wanted today. However, playing at The Emirates is a different game altogether and Arsenal will be too strong.
Replay Prediction: 2-0
Liverpool 1-1 Everton
My Prediction: 2-2
As expected, it will take another replay to settle these teams as once again they drew one-a-piece. Not a classic Derby but lots of hard work - Everton fully deserving of that point and will fancy their chances at home, especially with Arteta and Fellaini back. I'm backing them to knock Liverpool out - who have not won since Rafa's tirade against Sir Alex. I bet he is laughing.
Replay Prediction: 2-1
So, out of 16 games, I got 3 exact results and 9 correct results.
The FA Cup 5th Round Draw looks like this:
(I'll be doing more predictions nearer the time, but for now this is how the draw looks)
Sheff Utd v Hull
Watford v Chelsea
West Ham v Middlesbrough
Sunderland/ Blackburn v Coventry
Derby/ Nottm Forest v Man Utd
Swansea v Fulham
Liverpool/ Everton v Doncaster/ Aston Villa
Cardiff/ Arsenal v West Brom/ Burnley
Rasmus Elm has a bright future with the Swedish national team
The youngest, 20-year-old midfielder Rasmus Elm, made his first senior appearance with the Swedish national team last evening against the USA in Los Angeles.
He played composed and was not overwhelmed by the more seasoned American players when he entered in the second-half.
Is Rasmus going to play against El Tri in Oakland as Sweden continues the North American tour? Check back.

FA Cup 4th Round Games this Weekend
This is going to be a close one - it's the Derby and the history of Brian Clough comes flooding back - with Nigel Clough now manager of Derby. Derby are on a bad run right now but should have confidence after a good performance at Old Trafford in the Carling Cup.
My Prediction: 1-1
Hartlepool vs West Ham
Hartlepool knocked out Stoke in round 3, but The Hammers are on a decent run and I would expect them to field a full strengh side here. Hartlepool will be simply out-classed.
My Prediction: 0-2
Chelsea vs Ipswich
Do not under-estimate how important those late, late goals against Stoke were for Chelsea. The celebration with Scolari could represent a turning point to their season, and they will back up that statement with an easy win against Ipswich.
My Prediction: 2-0
Doncaster vs Aston Villa
Having been born in Doncaster, I predict them to win 10-0. No, seriously I think Doncaster have had a decent season, I know they are down the bottom but they squad is no where near the standard of the teams around them and I still think they will survive, however Villa's pace and skill will beat them over 90 minutes.
My Prediction: 0-2
Hull vs Millwall
Hull are not playing well themselves after a super start to Premier League life and currently are trying to find their feet again. Millwall have got everything to play for and nothing to lose, their current boss has done well, but Hull will just sneak it.
My Prediction: 1-0
Kettering vs Fulham
Kettering's ground will be packed for this and who knows what might happen? I expect Fulham to win, their manager has done a superb job with them and to be honest the sheer gulf in quality will see Fulham through.
My Prediction: 0-1
Portsmouth vs Swansea
Pompey have had a mediocre season, but that was always to be expected after Harry left the helm. They did well in the 2nd leg to knock out Bristol City and I think Swansea will just not be good enough.
My Prediction: 1-0
Sheffield Utd vs Charlton
Charlton are looking like League 1 might await and can't buy a win in the league right now, so for that reason I have to go for the home win.
My Prediction: 2-1
Sunderland vs Blackburn
Sbragia has done brilliantly at Sunderland and so has Allardyce at Blackburn. Both are new managers enjoying a good start to life at their new clubs. Sunderland struggle at home and I think Blackburn will take it to a replay.
My Prediction: 1-1
Torquay vs Coventry
BSP side Torquay are enjoying good form at the moment and their ground is tough to play at. They also knocked out Blackpool in the previous round so Coventry should not get complacent.
My Prediction: 1-0
Watford vs Crystal Palace
Really tough one to call this, I'm putting Palace to win just because Watford don't, in my opinion, seem to have much confidence right now - their manager has admitted it's been tough, and a cup run is what they don't want as their league position must be the main concern.
My Prediction: 1-2
West Brom vs Burnley
Every fan in the country wanted Burnley to hold on against Spurs but unfortunately they didn't. They have had loads of fixtures lately and I think with the combination of fatigue plus a bit of dissappointment over their defeat to Spurs, West Brom will win.
My Prediction: 2-0
Wolves vs Middlesbrough
Boro cannot seem to get a win from anywhere and I personally think they are in danger of staying in the bottom 3 at this rate. Southgate will worry more about his league standing then this cup so I think Wolves will beat them here.
My Prediction: 1-0
Man Utd vs Spurs
Redknapp admitted he will play a weakened side here which is a shame as this tie could have been great - but Man Utd will have no problem over-coming the Spur's 2nd team.
My Prediction: 3-0
Cardiff vs Arsenal
Cardif got to the final last season and if this tie was played 2 months ago I would have put money on them to win, but Arsenal are beginning to play like they can and their attack will be too much for Cardiff to cope with.
My Prediction: 0-2
Liverpool vs Everton
Benitez will probably field a weakened team here and Everton will play the best side they can. Everton did well in the league game last week and I have a hunch that they might just cause Liverpool a few more problems than expected.
My Prediction: 2-2
Let me know what you think! After the games I'll review my predictions and see how I did.

Paraguay's Gerardo Martino looking to take points in next two
A combination of a win and a draw at Montevideo in late March and Quito in early April should see La Albirroja all but qualify for the 2010 World Cup. If not, matches with lower-level squads Bolivia, Columbia, and Venezuela remain.
The group's top four teams qualify automatically for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 5th placed team faces CONCACAF's 4th placed team from the Hexagonal in a two-legged playoff for the right to go to South Africa.

Kaka Snub Signals The Start At Manchester City
Would the owner of these moronic, illogical words please step forward? The fairytale transfer of one Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite may have been announced as defunct as Kaka affirmed his holy status in Milan by spurning the advances from Manchester, yet it is amusing reading the comments which were released to press and media at the time. Morality and principles remained intact with the materialistic world that is football as Kaka sided with his heart – an outcome that most can be happy to see, even including myself because loyalty is a hidden gem today in an egotistical society, but would it have been that dire joining Manchester City? Shouldn’t a club, who can finally expect more than relegation battles and false dawns, have the right to target the premium batch of footballers and spend extravagantly despite the global economic crisis and do so without being branded as the anti-christ?
As speculation mounted over Kaka, an infinitely-growing list of characters came out to criticise such a move. Whether it be from former striker Bernardo Corradi, who grew a phobia for Manchester’s glorious sunshine weather, or from a David Beckham that argued “It’s not always about money. It’s about playing for the best team, playing with the best players in the world and winning trophies and being successful.” (La Galaxy, anyone?)
The general consensus is that money should not rule over feeling, others expressively opposed the transfer because Manchester City were prepared to part with unprecedented amounts of money and that it wasn’t correct when so many are facing hardship. Fingers have been pointed in the direction of Abu Dhabi with critics claiming that as the threat of unemployment grows more forceful by the day, it would be obscene for an individual to be paid half a million a week – a fortune none of us will experience in a lifetime.
It barely takes a glance of the headlines, whether it be global, national or local, to be reminded of the horrific toil the credit crunch is impacting on lives, but how and why exactly this responsibility lies in the hands of Shiekh Mansour and Khaldoon Al Mubaral seems to elude any kind of rational thought. Placing a £100 million price tag on any human being is naturally absurd, but it is the clearest indication yet of the peak of ambition that the owners are yearning for at Manchester City. If we eliminate ambition entirely from the sport then it removes the basic attraction of enjoyment and competitiveness, and dare I suggest that even watching the best performers’ acts as a reminder of the more light-hearted aspects of life?
It was the PFA Chief Executive Gordon Taylor who was quoted in the top paragraph – and one segment of my mind agrees wholeheartedly with his beliefs and attitude. The game, which so obviously plays a significant role in our lives as the sport is endeared on an unrecognisable scale, needs to remain in context with the real world. But talk of £500,000 wages per week obviously rattled a few minds as the inevitable idea of salary caps or limiting transfer budgets arose as if it would miraculously cure the gaping divide between football clubs and their fans. The harsh reality actually being that it reached an irretrievable point light-years ago and wages from the stands will never rival that of those on the pitch ever again.
Did fans globally turn in disgust when Real Madrid ‘loathly’ paid Juventus the small matter of €51m to acquire the services of Zidane? Did the hierarchy at the Santiago Bernabeu consider recruiting an aging journeyman (think Mario Jardel) instead of €20 million for Klaas Jan Huntelaar this winter to reignite their title charge, simply because the world is skint? The same can be said for Chelsea, Manchester United and even AC Milan in recent times and past generations.
As spectators we are here to be entertained, can I and others be forgiven for being remotely excited over mega transfers or can we only rely on six-month loan deals and a couple of go-happy bosmans to keep up the adrenaline? The £100m transfer of Kaka would have boosted attendances and an entire new audience would have been drawn, with only the ‘Footballers are overpaid charlatans’ brigade being further deterred.
If Gordon Taylor truly believed “the game has a duty to show financial propriety at this moment in time” then whether or not Kaka had joined Manchester City shouldn’t be the central, burning concern. If the bandwagon is so anxious about the direction the game is heading in, would it not be sane to encourage the freezing of season ticket prices among other options to pursue? After all, it is the heartbeat of the club – the divine followers and fans – who have to reach into their own wallets to attend matches. Have we all turned a blind eye to the more alarming issue of the extortionate debt racked up by some of our Premier League rivals? Manchester United being the pick of a hefty bunch who pay £43 million a year to service its huge debt of £660 million.
The fee for Kaka was unimaginable, so much so that for most of us it was difficult to accept but given the circumstances and the aspirations of the owners, it is understandable. It is the stature and the esteem which presents itself when given the chance to sign somebody of Kaka’s immense presence, complimented by the on-field mercurial treasures and the prestige of breaking the previous world transfer record twice-over. All would have significantly helped in Manchester City becoming a recognised club and in turn contributed to the owners’ wish of the Abu Dhabi name being promoted globally.
Martin Samuel’s recent entry in the Daily Mail managed to raise a smile as it was a rare take on how the potential A-List signing should be embraced and celebrated.
‘The terms of Kaka's potential transfer are unique because no great player in his right mind would seek to join Manchester City, and no major club would sell a talent like Kaka, unless extraordinary circumstances dictated. So City have made the circumstances extraordinary.’
The fees offered were ultimately so inconceivable, one-off and remarkable that AC Milan were fully aware that they will never receive such a colossal fortune for selling their cherished star – should he ever decide to leave his spiritual home.
The image portrayed was that of an innocent, pure-hearted saint enticed or almost enforced to join the shameful sinners of City – a situation strongly resembling Good Vs Evil but what unravelled was essentially ambition. Money can’t buy everything and we all knew that this was the truth, but the events unravelling in the storyline of Manchester City is a mission bound for excitement.
Missing out on Kaka isn’t an outcome that is ridiculed or mocked, as drive and desire should be applauded. Our trophy cabinet is as bare as Shinawatra’s emergency piggy bank and we’ve not won the European Cup/Champions League numerous times, but the base has been installed for triumph and the enchanting tale of how a club rose from the ashes of the third-tier to the prominence of English football rivals that of any other club.
Finally, as a fan it would be a disheartening day for football if Kaka simply arrived in Manchester for a (much) healthier bank balance so I admit hand on heart the best outcome happened. The fact that, however, Manchester City have been branded as slave owners in some quarters is farcical and ludicrous as many forget that the former World Player of the Year COULD have swiftly rejected any proposal immediately. His representatives did speak to Garry Cook, who was willing enough to fly to Milan, and that itself indicates that even a fragment of Kaka’s mind was considering the project.
Manchester City will continue to stride and aim to achieve the impossible, one rejection doesn’t halt the club and neither would it have signalled the death of football if it had happened - Talk about being melodramatic! When there are dreams to reach out for and realise, Sheikh Mansour won’t stop until they are transformed into a living reality. This is only the beginning.
“We are 16 weeks into a ten-year plan and, in that short period of time, in our first transfer window under the new owners, we have got a seat at the table for one of the greatest players in the world. The question could be about whether this club is big enough, but that won’t stop us going after the right player in the future.”
- Gary Cook

Post SuperDraft Interviews
Verbeek Dismissed By Feyenoord
Unforeseen injuries have helped little in their hunt for improvement and consistency but, in the words of the club director Eric Gudde, “It is a law in football that if a large part of the players do not want a coach, there is no way to continue other than to install a new man.” The fallen Dutch giants, who are a sombre reflection of their glorious past, will look to emerge from the wilderness by seeking the services of another figure in the managerial turnstile.
Feyenoord’s home form has been startling in comparison to their fortunes last season. In 2007-2008, Feyenoord enjoyed unprecedented success in their home fixtures, winning 39 points from 17 fixtures but already this season they have lost three matches and have picked up only fourteen points from nine matches – the sixth worst in the division. (Home table of this season's Dutch Eredivisie below).

Latest Eredivisie Transfers
FC Twente have acted immediately to replace the Ajax-bound Rob Wielaert by signing Peter Wisgerhof from NEC for €800,000 on a three-and-a-half-year contract. Elsewhere, Vitesse Arnheim have signed winger Julian Jenner and midfielder Rogier Molhoek on permanent deals after both failed to impact entirely at AZ Alkmaar. The two signed a one-year loan deal at Vitesse last summer and Jenner has agreed a contract that will expire in 2012. Relegation-threatened ADO Den Haag have reinforced their squad for the battles ahead through the capture of Feyenoord midfielder Danny Buijs. Finally, PSV have signed 22-year-old Swedish attacker Ola Toivonen from Malmo in the region of €4.2 million.

Midfielder Brad Ring Speaks Before MLS SuperDraft
You returned to compete against rival Saint Louis in the NCAA tournament, but now are not attending the combine due to injury. Is it the same or different injury and how is it healing?
- Yes, I am still rehabbing from an injury that I got against Ohio State in the Big Ten regular season. I missed about 7 games due to the injury but came back for the NCAA tournament games St. Louis, Michigan and St. Johns. Coming back for those 3 games probably slowed my healing process but it was worth it in my mind to end my college career fighting along side my teammates.
What lessons as team captain will you take with you to the professional game?
- As a 2 year captain at Indiana University I learned a lot. The most important thing I learned was how players respond differently to different situations. A captain must know each individual player and know how to get the best out of them.
You and your teammates advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament and ended with a 14-7-3 record. Was the season a success?
- To answer the question bluntly, no, it was not a success. Although the vast majority of programs around the country would be happy making it to the quarterfinals, we had higher expectations of ourselves.
Can you talk about your interactions with Head Coach Mike Freitag?
- Coach Freitag is a passionate coach who cares deeply about every single player on the roster. Obviously, he is a great coach and is knowledgeable of the game but he also cares about off the field issues that each player is going through. Our coaching staff at IU is constantly making sure things are going smoothly in every aspect of our lives.
What was your most memorable collegiate moment?
- The most memorable moment in my college career was actually a game that we tied at Maryland my freshman year. We were down 0-3 with only 17 minutes left in the game. We ended up scoring 3 goals and taking it into overtime. The game ended in a tie but that comeback showed the fight and never give up attitude that all IU teams have.
Care to comment on the outlook for the Hoosier program in 2009?
- The Indiana Hoosiers will do just fine in 2009. I believe we lost 9 players but with the talent currently on the roster along with a solid recruiting class, I'm sure that another player will be ready to step in and take the place of a player who left this year. I expect big things from my Hoosiers and I'll definitely be watching the games whenever possible.
What goals do you have heading into your professional career?
- I like to take it one step at a time and not look ahead to far. With that being said, currently my first professional goal is to simply be drafted. Hopefully that occurs and then I will set my next goal.
Will you be attending the MLS SuperDraft?
- I am unsure if I will be attending the MLS draft or not. I will be communicating with my agent to see what he thinks.

King remarked, "We are hopeful that the attendance will be bigger than usual and with the game being segregated, it means that the atmosphere at the Glebe is going to be even better than normal." The striker acknowledged, "I think our players will relish that."
Win, lose, or draw. Brechin City is enjoying a successful league campaign thus far. The club sits in third place and occupies one of the coveted First Division Play-offs spots. "We have played a lot of good football this season. And while we have slipped up in the last couple of games, we have lost once in the league all season and once in a challenge cup tie in July." King concluded by noting the importance of tomorrow’s match. "So our home record is pretty good and we need to make sure we go and have a go at St Mirren and don't sit back and let them come at us."

Old Firm Duo Head For Hamilton
Hamilton have completed the loan signings of Celtic forward Paul McGowan, 21, and Rangers defender Jordan McMillan, 20. Both have yet to make an impact on the teamsheets as McGowan has completed two substitute appearances while McMillan is still waiting for his debut at Ibrox.
Manager Billy Reid told Hamilton's official website: "I am delighted to finally secure these two young talented players and would like very much to thank both Rangers and Celtic for their assistance."
The loan deals do not signal the end of their careers at their parent clubs as McMillan has announced that he is expecting to sign a new deal with last season's UEFA Cup finalists. He told the Daily Record "I'm delighted to come to Hamilton and between now and the summer all my focus will be on forcing my way into their side and helping them stay in the SPL. But in the long term I'm contracted to Rangers and I still want to make the breakthrough there. I hope I won't be leaving Rangers and I don't think it will be happening because I'm signing a new deal."
Hamilton are currently standing 10th in the Scottish Premier League and squad additions and strengthenings are pivital for those in the scrap for survival.
Poli Ejido Devastate Espanyol's Copa Del Rey Hopes
The only other non-Primera Liga team remaining at this stage of the competition was Real Union but they were defeated at home to Real Betis. Defending holders Valencia pulled off a 1-1 draw at Racing Santander and Omar Bravo’s late strike rescued Deportivo La Coruna's dreams of progressing to the next hurdle after Luis Fabiano and Frederic Kanoute had stretched Sevilla's lead to two.
Copa Del Rey Fifth Round, First Leg Results
Poli Ejido 3-2 Espanyol
Racing Santander 1-1 Valencia
Sporting Gijon 3-1 Real Valladolid
Real Union 0-1 Real Betis
Sevilla 2-1 Deportivo La Coruna
Atletico Madrid 1-3 Barcelona

Kosmina's turbulent season not to be punished.
Although Kosmina hasn't made the best decisions in pressure cooker situations, his position hasn't been helped with an array of obstacles arising, notably a pile of injuries that has seen him call up inexperienced players from the NSWPL, and youth league. Sydney's backline boasts only a handful of experience with Iain Fyfe leading the way, followed by youth stand out, Anthony Golec and Manly United defender, Beau Busch. Shannon Cole and Robbie Middleby shared the wingback positions, but never really had an impact in this role.
The sudden retirement of club captain and central defender Tony Popovic left a gaping hole in the defence which never ended up being adequately filled. His experience and leadership were sorely missed. The inexperience of the backline came to the fore during a 3-3 draw with the CC Mariners, after giving away a 3-0 lead. Losing 3-2 to Melbourne after leading 2-0 further emphasised this.
Alex Brosque's and Mark Bridge's transition from central strikers into wing players had little success. Both were pushed wide at the expense of the maligned John Aloisi, who failed to fire at any point. And with former Socceroo goalkeeper Clint Bolton out of form, Kosmina's hand had been forced.
Any A-League coach is at some stage, going to go through some rough times. But if the manager is sacked as a result of these injuries, suspensions and retirements, it leaves little room for further success. New coaches mean new tactics and a new mentality. It is this, that results in a lack of consistency on the field.
Coaches such as Lawrie McKinna and Ernie Merrick have gone through their rough times, but their respective teams now sit aloft on the A-League ladder, and perform more consistently than most. Adelaides decision to choose Aueralio Vidmar (who was then the assistant coach) as head coach instead of a new, foreign manager, has resulted in United being not only the most consistent performer in the country, but also in Asia, judging by their recent Champions League performance.
The Sydney FC board have opted for long term results and consistency on the field when they quashed rumours of Kosmina's dismissal. A devilish blend of injuries, suspensions and retirements are short term setbacks, that can lead to longer term results with a bit of faith.

City Looking to Rebound after FA Shock
The 24th Minute offers some wonderful insight into City's situation with Seeing the Forest through the trees. M.E.N. sport's editor Peter Spencer via video speaking about City's transfer targets. And finally embattled centre back Micah Richards has vowed to work even harder as he desires to return to top form.
Newcastle Utd - Things Just Got Worse
Keegan left, the club was for sale and in came an old, swearing seemingly medoicre guy that any younger fans had really heard of. He was given a tough time, but actually has done rather well, getting Newcastle out of the bottom 3, something that shocked us all. However a 5-1 reverse at home to Liverpool made sweet sour as the club's most loyal turned.
Shay Given, one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, behind only, in my opinion, Czech in terms of sheer quality, after over 10 years of superb, loyal un-faltering service to the club has asked to leave. But can I blame him? No.
Whilst Newcastle fans across the globe have accussed him of being disloyal they need to stop and reconsider. Someone who most regard as a top keeper, has spent 10 years at a side who have won nothing, and he must be thinking that while he has the oppurtunity to win something, to go and do it. Man City may be as useless as my gran currently when it comes to football, especially after the 0-3 reverse to relegation bound Nottingham Forest, but they are a club going places and with Mark Hughes and a bottom-less purse, he can offer whatever he wants for Given, and it's easy to see why he is tempted.
Newcastle also need to think, the 10 million pounds being thrown around the rumour mill is a lot of money which could do some good to a side struggling in depth with constant injury problems and god knows what else. A new defender and a new midfielder are in order, but Newcastle fans shouldn't get their hopes up high, this window is rarely one Newcastle grab with both hands, last season we saw mainly future prospects join, but this season who knows?
And who would want to join Newcastle? There is no guarantee the manager will be here in 6 months time, the club may well have different owners - although the likelyhood fades every day it seems with the current climate - and it is hardily a club of harmony.
Your comments are most welcome.

The Joy Of Statistics: Premiership Top Goalscorers In 2008-09
The expected consensus is that a potent strikeforce aided by a willing midfielder or two will more often than not help teams leapfrog to the higher reaches of the table, but as to every trend there is courtesy of the exception.
Title aspirants Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Arsenal - the members of the top five - all have had plenty of success in front of goal this season, but the infuriatingly erratic Manchester City demonstrate that defensive frailites can be equally damaging in the pursuit for a respectable total points haul.
Fulham, Stoke City, Middlesbrough and West Brom, meanwhile, will undoubtedly be scouring Europe for an injection of creativity this month as they languish with less than one goal scored per game. The contrast here being that Fulham's stronghold back-four have filled in the absence of a goalscoring menace by performing the art of defending to near perfection on occasions, as they currently sit tenth and have achieved an impressive eight clean sheets - a figure only beaten by three members of the exclusive 'Big Four'.

Is Molineux to be the new home ground for Alan Gow?
Rangers attacking midfielder Alan Gow has already spent time this season competing in the Championship with Blackpool FC. He scored five goals in ten starts with the club to the delight of the supporters at Bloomfield Road.
Just when it looked certain that Blackpool would sign the player this transfer session, first-place side, Wolverhampton Wanderers have come in late to make a play for the midfielder.
It has been reported that Gow will soon be down to Molineux for terms and his medical.
The 26-year-old is a versatile player and can play up front if need be.
Is Gow to Wolverhampton a done deal?

Corinthians Reinforce Serie A Return With Souza Signing
The transfer will be widely appreciated by all concerned as Souza, who signed a three-year deal with Corinthians, will crave more opportunities to shine in front of goal while Panathinaikos will be given an additional non-EU place allocated in their squad as they attempt to conquer the domestic league and the Champions League.
Argentine centre-back Sergio Escudero has also moved to Corinthians, who joins from Argentinos Juniors on an initial loan basis for the upcoming Campeonato Brasileiro season. Should Escudero perform impressively during his stay in Sao Paulo then a permanent deal will be arranged. The defender made his debut for Racing de Olavarria back in 2003 and has since significantly contributed to Olimpo regaining their top-flight status in the 2006 Apertura. A fruitless transfer to Independiente never lasted beyond seven appearances, forcing a move elsewhere and Argentinos Juniors were waiting on the horizon.
